Remember taking that really great business course in law school? You know, the one where you learned how to successfully operate, market, and sell your business in real world?
Funny. I don’t either.
Lawyers graduate from law school. Not business school or marketing school.
The first step toward running a successful law practice is to acknowledge that you don’t know everything about running a business. Also, you must realize that it’s perfectly okay to seek help from people who do.
Hanging a shingle in the street just isn’t enough—especially in a highly competitive legal market. Every lawyer out there is constantly seeking new ways to get clients in the door. None of your competitors want to compromise their integrity or come off as desperate.
If you’re looking to get ahead as a solo practitioner, you have to accept that you may not be able to do all of your marketing and business development activities alone. You should always consider seeking help from qualified professionals who did go to school for marketing and who do have experience getting new clients for businesses like yours.
